Finding Flora

8 Jan

Once upon a time a man wandered around the globe
Every place he went, he felt for a little while at home
He enjoyed the different people he met
Still a question remained in his heart
Where is my place to stay, what is my part?

It was a wish so deep and full of hope
But it saddened him
whenever he felt the urge to move again
Lift up his feet and take a train or plane
Like his heart would not decide where to remain

So he wandered and wandered,
and wondered some more
Took different turns, explored interesting spaces
met more beautiful people along the way
But all in all he did not find that particular place to stay

Until, yes until
He climbed up a wonderful Tree
A majestic tree also once upon a time
But now an old lady, swaying in a Dutch summer’s night
A testimony of a long and fruitful life

A curious choice it was indeed
But the man thought, maybe, maybe this is my place to be
So he hauled himself up a few branches
Pushed leaves aside carefully, only to realize
There was a little girl in the tree

They looked at each other, she blinked
and said ‘Dear man, this tree is already for me.
My safe haven, my mighty Queen,
this is where I find my peace,
under this starry night, but here’s my wish for thee:

Descend this wonderful tree
but leave your wanderlust behind
And look for anybody, but me
go find yourself, your life and even a wife
Simply imagine your best possible dream.

And I will meet you
Sooner than later
Wherever you will be.’

Persons of inspiration: A man who climbed up a real Dutch tree once, the Anne Frank Tree, and taught me more than he probably knows, a bit delayed, but lots of love for you, Flora and her undoubtedly wonderful mother Johanna
